These type of breed is around 200 years old, cross breeding with Poodles believed to tighten the curl. Compared to other retrievers, this breed takes longer to mature than others.

The Curly Coated Retriever has the most unusual coat of all retrievers. People with allergies are not advised to interact with these dogs because of their oily coat. This breed is rare, although small in numbers; the Curly is still as fit for purpose. In the United States alone, only 150 are registered compared to over 60,000 Golden puppies.

4. Flat Coated Retriever

If you’re a perfectionist, this breed is not for you. The Flat Coated Retriever is sensitive and doesn’t respond to harsh training method. Soothe his hurt feelings first, or else he will become stubborn or refuse anything you will ask.

Positive reinforcement technique such as praise will do the trick for this one. Though they are affectionate, they are unaware of their strength and can hurt people. Flat Coated is not best for homes with young children or fragile citizens.

Tolling means to entice. The origin of purebred dog known as Toller is in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, Canada. This one is a rare breed, known for luring ducks while splashing in waters while the hunter is at aim.

Toller is the smallest of all the retrievers but still have the same skills. They are more strong willed and not anxious to please, unlike the others. They love being around with the kids and other animals.

6. Chesapeake Bay Retriever
